Intel will soon introduce new modules called VPUs, a new AI performance-boosting technology that will likely launch alongside Raptor Lake and be fully integrated on
Meteor Lake. It was reported last year that Meteor Lake will integrate a VPU, which is located next to the computing module and functions similarly to the neural network engine of the Apple M1 to greatly improve the processing speed of machine learning (ML) tasks.
According to
Wccftech, Intel recently confirmed in a technical presentation that the VPU or Versatile Processing Unit unit responsible for processing various AI tasks will appear for the first time in the upcoming Raptor Lake, not Meteor Lake as previously thought. The technology will initially be available in Raptor Lake Mobile, with full integration in Meteor Lake by 2023.

Intel said the VPUs for the Raptor Lake chips were co-developed with key partners and will appear in some laptop designs. It is understood that the VPU provides a variety of functions, such as load processing AI effects and experiences in the Windows operating system, ready for Meteor Lake to fully integrate the technology.
A Microsoft official said that neural processing units like the Intel VPU represent a turning point in computing and the key to offering Windows users on PCs a whole new set of delightful experiences that will change the way people use their computers and connect with others. Microsoft is working closely with Intel on the VPU and is excited to share more information soon.
In addition to the VPU, in the future, Intel will also introduce the new Intel Connectivity Suite 2.0, Wi-Fi proximity sensing, Bluetooth LE audio, and most importantly, Wi-Fi 7 wireless connectivity technology.
