Intel announces a webcast on March 15 to detail its European semiconductor program

Intel has expressed its willingness to build a new fab in Europe after announcing its new IDM 2.0 strategy last year and creating Intel Foundry Services. Afterward, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger visited Europe and conducted a series of inspections to discuss the possibility of building a new fab in the European continent with relevant EU political and business people.

Intel officially announced that it will conduct a webcast on March 15, 2022, at 6:00 am PDT to share details of its latest plans for semiconductor R&D and manufacturing in Europe.

Intel originally planned to announce the relevant information at the end of last year, but due to the complex problems encountered in the project and the impact of many factors to be considered, the time was finally postponed to the beginning of this year. In fact, in the past year, there has been a lot of news surrounding Intel’s European semiconductor plans. In addition to Germany, Intel is also rumored to have considered Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and even France and Italy, to create a supply chain covering the upstream and downstream of semiconductors.

There have been media reports that Intel will build a factory cluster in Europe in two stages. The first phase will first invest about $20 billion to build two fabs, and then build six fabs in stages. The factory area will eventually have eight fabs and become a semiconductor manufacturing base worth $100 billion. But then it was reported that Intel’s new plan is to expand the scope of investment in Europe, in the next few years, in addition to building a new fab in Germany, a packaging and testing plant will be built in Italy, as well as an R&D and design center in France. The latest reports say that Intel has chosen to build its new fab in Magdeburg, Germany, which will create more than 1,000 new jobs. Regardless of past rumors, Intel will soon reveal the answer.
