Incase Revives Microsoft’s Beloved Accessories: A 2024 Comeback Story
Microsoft’s peripheral products, once renowned for their ergonomic design, announced in April 2023 the cessation of production for Microsoft-branded computer accessories. Upon depletion of existing inventory, sales will conclude, marking the end of a 40-year legacy. However, entering 2024, Microsoft embarks on a new venture.
Laptop accessory manufacturer Incase has proclaimed a collaboration with Microsoft. Its parent company, Onward Brands, now possesses the licensing rights and intellectual property of Microsoft peripherals, preparing to launch a “Designed by Microsoft” series. This collection, encompassing keyboards, mice, headsets, and speakers, with anticipated market release later this year, includes the Sculpt ergonomic keyboard, Modern mouse, “850” wireless desktop suite, and Modern webcam.
Charlie Tebele, CEO of Onward Brands, in a media interview, stated that the upcoming “Designed by Microsoft” peripherals by Incase mirror Microsoft’s former products, merely with a brand emblem alteration. This strategic move aims to expand its consumer product portfolio, transitioning its product mix, and consumers can look forward to their favored products returning to shelves in 2024.
While there is consumer hope for the resurgence of Microsoft’s gaming peripherals, no current news suggests their inclusion in the Onward Brands licensing agreement. Speculation abounds that Microsoft might engage with another firm for licensing agreements regarding gaming peripherals.
