IDC data: Apple Watch shipments reached 11.8 million units in Q3 2020
According to the latest data from the research company IDC, in the third quarter of 2020, the total shipment of Apple Watch reached 11.8 million units, an increase of nearly 75% from the 6.8 million units in the third quarter of 2019.
Apple’s wearable device category created a record revenue of $7.9 billion last quarter, but because this category includes multiple products such as Apple Watch and AirPods, there is no way to determine a specific number. Apple has not officially announced the sales of its own smartwatches, so these are third-party data. According to the data of the research company Strategy Analytics, Apple Watch’s previous shipments have never exceeded 9.2 million, so 11.8 million maybe Apple Watch’s new quarter.
In the third quarter of 2020, Apple expanded its Apple Watch product line. At the same press conference, the high-end Apple Watch Series 6 and the mid-range Apple Watch SE were released together, and the Apple Watch 3 generation was still a low-cost entry option. In sales, these prices give users more options.
IDC estimates that Apple Watch accounted for 21.6% of the market share of global wrist wearable devices last quarter, second only to Xiaomi’s 24.5% market share, but Xiaomi’s products have an advantage mainly because of lower prices.
