Google removed the system UI that have codename Armadillo in Fuchsia

For the past two years, Google has been developing a new open-source operating system called Fuchsia. For this operating system, Google has not disclosed much information, but it was developed as an open source project, so the outside world can always track its development progress.

Unlike Android and Chrome OS, Fuchsia is not based on the Linux kernel — it uses a brand new, Google- developed microkernel called “Zircon.” Fuchsia not only “discards” the Linux kernel, but also does not use the GPL open source license, the system uses an open source license for the combination of BSD 3 clause, MIT, and Apache 2.0.

Last year it was discovered to introduce a new system UI. Fuchsia’s UI layer uses the Flutter SDK developed by Dart, which provides cross-platform code for running on Android and iOS. The system UI code is Armadillo.

However, for such a new system UI with good visual effects, Google seems to be not satisfied. It was discovered that Google completely removed Armadillo in the recent code change, and the developer even got a title called “Armadillo fainted!“, and Armadillo is now replaced by Ermine, a developer-oriented shell, designed for the express purpose of testing Fuchsia applications.

For the future, most of Fuchsia’s UI development work can be found in a closed source repository called ” vendor/google “. According to the comments of the public code, we can know that “there are at least three new “shells” (or UI for the OS) in development: one I’ve been quietly keeping an eye on, Dugonglass, and two spotted recently by Redditor mishudark, Dragonglass and Flamingo.”
