Google has always made a variety of smart devices, mobile phones, laptops, smart speakers, and more. Recently, Google launched a smart desk lamp called dLight.
Ben Gold, a designer who works at Google, recently posted some instructions for this dLight. This is a pure white table lamp with a round base and a T-shaped extension on top of the cylindrical stand. The light is emitted from a pill-shaped part under the extension, which can be rotated at least 90 degrees, allowing users to hit the light in their face or shine on a table.
The design of the dLight is especially suitable for those who need to conduct video conferences, and this is actually the design purpose of the dLight. Users can control the dLight with the Google Assistant and can add the lamp to the Google Home app, just like any other smart light bulb. The dLight doesn’t have a built-in microphone, so users don’t need to worry about the lamp secretly recording.
Although you can’t see any wires from the dLight in the picture, the lamp has a USB Type-C port, which is not much of a problem for its 14W rated power consumption. The dLight itself can also get OTA firmware updates via WiFi, enabling more functionality in the future.
But the most important point is that Google only sells this lamp to its internal employees. Therefore, many people estimate that this desk lamp was developed by Google so that employees can better work from home. In fact, Google has also launched products for sale to employees before, but this time the dLight will be more distinctive in design.
