Google directly shut down the network data collection service
Google has announced that it has closed its network data collection service and stopped providing data to operators. This service was originally used to improve the quality of mobile networks. This service is mainly used by Google to collect mobile network information using Android devices of global users, and then provide the quality data of mobile networks to operators for improvement. If operators find that a mobile network in a certain area is poor, they can optimize or add new base stations to provide better services for all users in the area.
From the above process, we can see that Google mainly collects information from users and transfers them to operators. In this process, users’ privacy may be violated. Although in some respects this service may be beneficial to both operators and users, however, Google will be fined for violating the EU’s user data protection. A Google spokesperson said the company is working on a new plan to continue to help mobile network operators improve their networks through aggregated and anonymous data metrics.
We have already mentioned that Google’s service does collect user data but it is actually improving the network, so at least it can be said that the service is still beneficial. Therefore, after Google announced the closure of this service, many users believe that it should continue to be retained, otherwise the network will be worse for remote areas. Google did not disclose how many operators have improved the network in this area, but many users still hope that the service will continue to operate.
