GNOME 3.32: default Adwaita theme with more modernized elements
The next version of GNOME, 3.32, is expected to go live this spring, and team members have been involved in the intense development process after the Christmas holiday. Today team member Matthias Clasen released the latest blog post, revealing some theme adjustments in the GTK+ 3 toolkit, the core component of the GNOME desktop environment. This shows that the upcoming GNOME 3.32 desktop environment will be equipped with a new Adwaita theme, which will incorporate more modern fashion elements.
Clasen said, “we are hoping to strike a balance between GTK’s stability promises on the one hand, and the desire to provide up-to-date applications on the other. It is a delicate balance to get right and we are keen to engage with GTK users as part of this process.”
In Clasen’s blog post, the biggest challenge in upgrading Adwaita is that most GTK+ applications still use the stable GTK+ 3.x series. And any major adjustments will lead to many problems. “Given the stable nature of this release series, we don’t want to cause theme compatibility issues for applications. At the same time, 3.x is the main GTK version in use today, and we want to ensure that GTK applications don’t feel stale or old fashioned.”
