GeForce RTX 4080 sales are reported to be sluggish

Nvidia released the GeForce RTX 40 series GPU based on the Ada Lovelace architecture at the GTC 2022 “GeForce Beyond” special event at the end of September. It adopts the 4nm process customized by TSMC, coupled with new technologies such as the third-generation RTX optical tracking architecture and DLSS 3, which greatly improves the performance.

Among them, the GeForce RTX 4090 equipped with AD102 was launched on October 12, 2022, and the GeForce RTX 4080 equipped with AD103 was also launched on November 16. According to TomsHardware, the sales data collected from China, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany, shows that the sales of GeForce RTX 4080 are not ideal, and survey reports in many regions even use “bad” to describe the sales situation.

Previously, it was reported that the shipment of GeForce RTX 4090 was 130,000 units, and the shipment of GeForce RTX 4080 was 30,000 units. Players seem to be more willing to pay for the higher-end and the more expensive GPUs because the price-performance ratio appears to be higher. Retailers generally report that the GeForce RTX 4090 is indeed shipping faster than the GeForce RTX 4080, pointing out that the latter’s biggest problem is pricing.

Some analysts pointed out that due to the high price of the new generation of graphics cards and the large inventory of GeForce RTX 30 series and GTX 16 series graphics cards on the market, many players are not in a hurry to buy new graphics cards. Generally, the sales speed of new graphics cards should be the fastest in the first few weeks after they are just released, not to mention that many regions have entered the traditional peak sales season, and merchants have also provided discounts. Even so, there are still many reports about the sluggish sales of the GeForce RTX 4080. In addition to objective reasons such as the economic downturn, it is largely due to Nvidia’s current pricing strategy.
