NVIDIA releases RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 firmware updates: Fix blank screen problem

After the release of NVIDIA’s RTX 40 series graphics cards, they encountered many problems, the most serious of which was the burning problem of the 12VHPWR interface. In addition, there is a blank screen failure after entering the system. Now NVIDIA has fixed this problem, but if you encounter this problem, you have to update the firmware of the graphics card.

Usually, some minor faults can be fixed by a driver update, but the blank screen fault encountered by RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 cannot. Because this problem occurs during the system loading process, and the driver has not been loaded at this time, it is necessary to update the firmware.

NVIDIA has released a new version of the NVIDIA GPU UEFI firmware update tool for RTX 4090 and RTX 4080 graphics cards. This tool will detect whether your graphics card needs to update the firmware, and then will give you a prompt to complete the firmware update step by step. If you get a blank screen before using this tool, try one of these methods:

  • Ensure you are using the latest SBIOS from your motherboard vendor
  • Change boot mode from UEFI to Legacy/CSM
  • Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary card or integrated graphics)
After downloading the tool, run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions. Make sure to close all applications before running the tool and make sure there are no OS updates going on in the background, this tool supports Founders Edition graphics cards as well as graphics cards from AIC partners.
