Facebook announces the establishment of the first data centre in Asia
Global social networking giant Facebook has announced that it will establish a data centre in Singapore, which is the company’s first data centre in Asia.
Facebook said there are many reasons for deciding to establish a data centre in Singapore, including Singapore’s strong infrastructure and access to fibre-optic lines.
Although the company has not previously established a data centre in Asia, Facebook has jointly invested in building a number of Pacific Rim submarine cables with Google and Microsoft.
The most important purpose of investing in submarine cables is to provide access services for users in the Asian region but ultimately rely on data centres to improve services.
Google, which also invested in a number of Pacific Rim submarine cables, has previously established data centres in Singapore and has also expanded multiple areas in recent years.
Another important reason why Google and Facebook chose to set up a data centre in Singapore is that Singapore is an important offshore export of many submarine cables.
Connect to North America and Oceania via Singapore’s submarine cable and, if necessary, from Singapore to Central Asia and even Europe.
In terms of environmental protection, Facebook said that the data centre in Singapore uses 100% clean energy, and all power supply is provided by solar energy, hydropower and wind power.
