Ericsson said it would opt out MWC 2020 for employee safety

A few days ago, we reported that South Korean hardware manufacturer, LG chose to withdraw from the MWC 2020 conference due to the outbreak of a new coronavirus. At the same time, we also predicted that more companies might cancel their participation in MWC due to the coronavirus outbreak. Yesterday, Swedish telecommunications equipment maker Ericsson also announced that they would also withdraw from the MWC 2020 conference.

In the official Ericsson press release:

Following the outbreak and continued spreading of the novel corona virus, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) has closely monitored the development and adhered to recommendations from relevant national authorities and international bodies, such as the WHO. The company has already taken a number of precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of employees and to minimize the impact on the company’s operations.”

At present, the new coronavirus has spread to many countries. At the same time, Ericsson, as a large company participating in the MWC 2020 conference, obviously their booth will attract more participants to gather. This is obviously not good for preventing the virus from spreading. We can understand Ericsson’s choice.

The President and CEO of Ericsson also stated:

“The health and safety of our employees, customers and other stakeholders are our highest priority. This is not a decision we have taken lightly. We were looking forward to showcasing our latest innovations at MWC in Barcelona. It is very unfortunate, but we strongly believe the most responsible business decision is to withdraw our participation from this year’s event.”
