Epic Games announced a crossplay tool for game developers. Among them, it will be mainly based on Windows PC applications and will be able to connect with friends on the Epic Games Store and the Steam platform on a single platform.
Judging from the current announcements, Epic Games hopes that by integrating the two services of the Epic Games Store and Steam, this tool allows Epic Games Store users to directly access their friends’ list originally on Steam through development tool resources, as well as game content purchased through Steam, you can also call and activate game content stored on Steam directly from the Epic Games Store through account linkage.
This approach will allow users to unify all game works scattered in the Epic Games Store and Steam through the Epic Games Store service platform. It means that players will likely be able to centrally manage their holding games, and at the same time attract more people to use the Epic Games Store service.
In addition to providing this development tool for the Windows PC platform, Epic Games revealed that it will also launch versions for macOS and Linux operating system environments. Corresponding game consoles and mobile devices will even be added to correspond to more cross-platform linked play experiences.
However, Epic Games has not disclosed the details of the action method outside the Windows PC platform. However, Epic Games is emphasized that it will use its service platform resources and game engine technology to meet more cross-platform play needs.
