Drupal 8.5.0 has been officially released and this version has significantly improved the migration experience. For more detailed information on migrating to Drupal 8, see the Migration Bulletin. In addition, the core media modules have also been significantly improved and are available to all website builders.
8.5.0 enables BigPipe by default to provide dynamic pages faster and supports PHP 7.2. PHP 7.2 is now also recommended for PHP versions of Drupal 8.
There is also a new feature worth noting that this release introduces a new experimental layout building block. The new experimental layout builder module provides display layout capabilities for articles, pages, user profiles, and other entity displays.
