Compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology drivers and Windows 11
Microsoft said in the latest document that it has found that some devices have blue screens of death bug, and the investigation found that the cause of the problem is the audio driver released by Intel.
The audio driver used by Intel Smart Sound Technology has compatibility errors. When users update Windows 11, errors such as the blue screen of death may occur.
For this reason, Microsoft has temporarily blocked the use of related drivers to upgrade Windows 11 through the backend server. Users should see a prompt when they try to upgrade.
It is worth noting that Intel has released a new version of the driver. When the user actively updates the driver, the error can be resolved and Windows 11 update will be received.
Intel Smart Sound Technology is an integrated audio digital signal processor that is responsible for audio digital signal processing on many modern Intel devices.
Microsoft pointed out that it is the Intel SST 10.29.0.5152 driver and earlier versions or the Intel SST 10.30.0.5152 and earlier versions that caused the compatibility error.
When the blue screen of death occurs, the error code that the system prompts will include IntcAudioBus.sys. If the user sees this error prompt, it means it is affected.
Users who have already upgraded Windows 11 will get a blue screen of death error. Users who have not yet upgraded will not be able to upgrade at this time.
Users who use Intel Smart Sound Technology need to obtain a new version of the driver through the OEM manufacturer. Only the supported driver can avoid the blue screen of death issue.
Affected users need to update the driver to Intel SST 10.30.00.5714 and higher, or Intel SST 10.29.00.5714 and higher.
