BlackBerry classic phones will stop supporting on January 4, 2022
BlackBerry switched to Android in 2015, but it was too late. In the end, BlackBerry gave up its mobile phone business and currently mainly provides communication technology and QNX in-vehicle systems.
The old BlackBerry system will stop supporting on January 4, 2022, and the affected include BlackBerry 10 version and BlackBerry OS 7.1 and earlier versions.
Different from other operating systems, the BlackBerry system will affect the normal use of the device after it stops supporting, including calls, text messages, and the network may be abnormal.
Therefore, it may not be a good idea for users to still use BlackBerry devices. After all, if you are in an emergency, you may even fail to make an emergency call.
This is what BlackBerry said in its own announcement, including but not limited to phone calls, text messages, wireless networks, and cellular data, and other basic device functions that may no longer be reliable.
System built-in applications such as BlackBerry Connection, BlackBerry Desktop Management, BlackBerry World, BlackBerry Protection, BlackBerry Information, etc. will only provide basic functions after the support is discontinued.
The BlackBerry Playbook has also reached the end of its life. After the support is discontinued, this tablet can only be used as a stand-alone computer.
Although the mobile phone business has failed, BlackBerry is still alive and well, but the scale is not comparable to that of more than a decade ago. Now BlackBerry still provides communications and operating systems.
QNX, which now has a high share in the industrial control field, was acquired by BlackBerry in 2010. QNX is used in automobiles, the International Space Station, and US nuclear power plants.
