ASRock Releases W790 WS Motherboard
As Intel officially released the Sapphire Rapids HEDT/workstation processors including the Xeon W-3400 series and Xeon W-2400 series, a number of manufacturers have also launched corresponding motherboards. ASRock announced the launch of the W790 WS motherboard, which provides better manageability and reliability for high-performance workstations.
The motherboard is black as a whole, E-ATX board type, size 30.5×22.7cm, the chipset is Intel W790, adopts 14-layer PCB, supports Xeon W-3400 series and Xeon W-2400 series processors. W790 WS supports four-channel memory, has eight DDR5 memory slots, supports EEC error correction, and supports a maximum capacity of 2TB. The motherboard also provides five full-length PCIe slots, two are PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, two are PCIe 5.0 x8 slots, and one is PCIe 4.0 x16 slots. The PCIe 5.0 slots are directly connected to the processor, and the PCIe 4.0 slots are provided by the chipset.
The power supply of the motherboard is a 20+2-phase design. The power supply area is covered with heat dissipation armor. There are heat pipes and three cooling fans inside. Users can set the fan speed in the BIOS. ASRock W790 WS is equipped with four PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots, all of which are 2280 specifications, covering the heat sink and directly connected to the processor. The W790 chipset provides eight SATA 3.0 interfaces and one PCIe 4.0 x4 U2 mini SAS (SFF-8643) interface.
In terms of I/O interfaces, ASRock W790 WS has two USB4/Thunderbolt 4 interfaces, two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A interfaces, four USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A interfaces, two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports (Marvell AQC113CS), one 2.5G Ethernet port (Intel I225LM), one SPDIF output interface, two WiFi antenna interfaces, two audio interfaces, and the sound card is Realtek ALC897. A BIOS FlashBack button is designed on the rear I/O panel to simplify the BIOS flashing process. In terms of wireless connection, the motherboard supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
The ASRock W790 WS motherboard also supports the installation of the Blazing Quad M.2 SSD PCI-Express x16 expansion card, which provides more M.2 slots for the motherboard. The size of the expansion card is 24.4×12.6cm. It adopts a dual-fan heat dissipation design and has four PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots, all of which are 22110 specifications. Each M.2 slot is equipped with a status indicator, and the expansion card power supply interface is 6Pin.
ASRock has not yet provided the specific price and launch date of the W790 WS motherboard and expansion cards.
