Android Security Patch December causes Pixel Launcher crashing
Google ’s Android update to the Pixel series seems to be malfunctioning. Some users have been prompted by the launcher to crash after installing this update. Due to the constant pop-up of crash prompts, the user cannot perform any operation. In the end, a large number of users choose to reset the phone directly to restore the original version pre-installed on the phone. According to the analysis, the crash seems to be for Android 10 gesture navigation.
After testing by users on Reddit, it was found that if the user has set the traditional key menu, the menu will still be used after a normal upgrade of the system, and there will be no crash. But if you manually switch the key menu to Android 10 gesture navigation, the Pixel launcher immediately crashes and keeps crashing. This crash prompt will keep appearing at the top of the screen, causing users to be unable to perform other operations, which is the main reason why many users choose to reset their phones. If you don’t reset it, the phone will not work properly. At least until now, Google has not released any instructions, so there is no good way to solve it.
Resetting the phone will cause all installed applications and data to be lost. However, some users find that when the Pixel launcher crashes, they can quickly click the three-dot buttons in the upper right corner of the screen to open the launcher’s settings menu. Then uninstalling the latest update in the settings menu can solve the launcher crash problem, but this option needs to complete the operation in a very short time. Therefore, users with slow hands may crash again before opening the settings menu, resulting in that they cannot uninstall even if they know that uninstalling the update can be resolved.
