AMD will launch Ryzen 5 5600X3D

At the CES 2022 grand exhibition, AMD introduced its Zen 3 architecture desktop processors employing 3D Vertical Cache (3D V-Cache) technology, delivering an additional 64MB of 7nm SRAM cache for each CCD. This expands the processor’s L3 cache capacity from 32MB to 96MB, tripling the original capacity. In the consumer market, the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 5800X3D stands as the sole AM4 platform product implementing 3D Vertical Cache technology.

Twitter user @g01d3nm4ng0 revealed that the new product code 100-00001176 belongs to AMD’s novel AM4 platform processor, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, which employs 3D Vertical Cache technology. This 6-core, 12-thread processor features a 1MB reduction in L2 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but its L3 cache capacity remains the same at 96MB.

Compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the Ryzen 5 5600X3D features a somewhat lower core frequency, with a base frequency of 3.3 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.4 GHz, both representing a reduction of 100 MHz. In terms of pricing, the current price for the Ryzen 7 5800X3D stands at $289, hence the Ryzen 5 5600X3D will undoubtedly be priced lower, offering a new choice for budget-restricted players within the mature AM4 platform.

It was rumored that when the Ryzen 7 5800X3D was launched, TSMC’s 3D SoIC technology was still in its nascent stages, and hadn’t achieved mass production in the truest sense. Coupled with the fact that AMD released the Milan-X codenamed EPYC processor, which employs 3D V-Cache technology and requires more CCDs, priority was given to server product lines in a situation of limited capacity due to higher market demand and profitability. For a prolonged period, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D had a relatively high price, correlating to supply volume. With the arrival of the Ryzen 5 5600X3D, it seems to suggest AMD’s maturing application of the 3D V-Cache technology.
