13th-Gen Intel CPUs Discontinued: Everything You Need to Know
Recently, Intel issued a new Product Change Notification (PCN), announcing the discontinuation of several 13th-generation Core processors, including models from the K, KF, and KS series, totaling 14 models. The final shipment date for these Raptor Lake-S products is slated for June 28th of this year.
Intel’s decision to discontinue these models is hardly surprising, given that the 14th generation Core processors, belonging to the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup, have already hit the market. It would indeed be more peculiar if two generations of products, with minimal differences between them, were being sold concurrently. Although a discontinuation notice has been issued, these products will still be available on the market for a short while, as distributors still hold inventory. Overall, for gamers looking to purchase a new system, opting for the 14th generation Core processors might be the preferable choice.
Intel launched the Core i9-13900KS processor in January of last year, featuring Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB) technology and achieving a maximum turbo frequency of 6GHz right out of the box. Additionally, Adaptive Boost Technology (ABT) potentially allows for higher multi-core turbo frequencies, enhancing gaming performance. This processor holds the distinction of being the first in the PC industry that can reach 6GHz without the need for overclocking, making it a significant milestone.
