Windows 11 now supports system-level DoH feature
Microsoft has been preparing to support DNS over HTTPS encryption, as a system-level configuration that can be used for entire encryption instead of specific software encryption.
For example, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browser both support this encryption function, but if other software does not support this function, the plaintext network is still used by default.
In Windows 11, Microsoft has already brought the entire encryption function, through a simple configuration, we can make our entire system adopt DNS over HTTPS.
Go to Windows 11 settings application, network connection, select the network card currently in use, click edit after DNS server assignment, and select manual.
Then turn on IPv4, fill in the addresses you need in the preferred DNS and alternative DNS servers, and then select only encryption and save in DNS encryption.
In addition, there are additional options provided here, namely the first choice for encryption and the permission for unencrypted. Setting this option will give priority to encryption. When encryption is not possible, select plain text.
The configuration of the IPv6 network is similar. If you use IPv6 as the main connection method, you can also configure the IPv6 DNS over the DoH function to encrypt your connection.
After the configuration is complete, please use a browser to visit https://1.1.1.1/help This page can automatically check the configuration, if DoH displays Yes, it means the configuration is successful.
