Windows 10 product key leaked in Korea for only $2
The Korean subsidiary of Microsoft is difficult to handle the growing number of leaked Windows 10 product keys sold on the country’s online shopping platform. According to the Korea Times, Microsoft is not only unable to prevent the illegal sale of these license keys, but at the same time, the company is unable to determine the source of these product keys.
The source quoted Microsoft executives in South Korea as saying:
“It is almost impossible to know where products keys are leaked from as Windows is a widely used operating system and there are too many leakage cases. Product keys distributed through online shopping platforms are mostly unfit for general consumers and are vulnerable to security issues.”
The Windows 10 product key is sold at the Microsoft Store in Korea for 200,000 won, which is about $165 at today’s exchange rate. On the other hand, the leaked product key is only 2,500 won, which means it costs $2 to buy from a third-party online seller. Most product keys are released on Coupang and TMON, two of Korea’s largest online shopping platforms. Microsoft said it has contacted the two online shopping platforms in order to stop the sale of illegal product keys.
