Windows 10 KB5004945 causes major issues for users
Earlier, Microsoft released an emergency update (KB5004945) for the Windows 10 printing service to fix high-risk security vulnerabilities, but as users have reported, this update has unexpected problems.
Several users reported that the printer could not be used normally after installing this update to fix the vulnerability. The printer manufacturer Zebra stated that this was caused by a Microsoft security update. All 15 Zebra ZT220 printers used by the company were paralyzed and severely affected normal production.
The good news is that Microsoft has realized that there may be problems with the security update, but it is not clear when Microsoft will release a new version to solve the problem of printer unavailability.
In order to avoid affecting the normal production and operation of the enterprise, uninstalling this security update is also the last resort, but there are ways to uninstall the update while improving overall security.
That is to use the temporary mitigation program provided by Microsoft. This program was originally provided to companies that were unable to install updates in time, but now it has become a life-saving straw.
To use the mitigation plan, please uninstall the KB5004945 out-of-band update. The uninstall method: go to the control panel, programs and features, installed updates, and uninstall.
If you cannot uninstall, you can also try to execute this command in the administrator version of PowerShell: wusa /uninstall /kb:5004945 /promptrestart
- Open the command prompt in administrator mode
- Enter the following command and press Enter
- Stop–Service –Name Spooler –Force
- After successful execution, enter the following command and press Enter
- Set–Service –Name Spooler –StartupType Disabled
