Windows 10 KB4535996 Update causes many issues for users
Earlier, we mentioned that the optional update of Windows 10 KB4535996 caused blank screens, abnormal system freezes, and blue screen of death issues.
But it seems that this optional update brings more than just these problems because some system administrators have found that this update will cause Microsoft’s signature tools to malfunction.
At the same time, gamers found that the frame rate of the game has dropped after installing the update, and sometimes even the real-time audio output from the game has a slight freeze.
However, this update is a test update so only users manually click to check for updates that will be installed, so relatively few users are affected.
A Sign Tool (SignTool.exe) is a command-line tool for digitally verifying and signing files. Usually, companies and professionals use this tool to sign files to ensure that they are not tampered with.
However, after installing this optional update, many system administrators have reported exceptions to the signing tool and will crash and pop up error codes when attempting to sign.
For example, when developers use the signature tool in Visual Studio 2019 to use Authenticode signature for .DLL/EXE/MSI, all projects fail.
Or, when the signing tool is executed through PowerShell without providing parameters, nothing is displayed. If you uninstall the update, the signing tool is restored.
Game frames drop and audio freeze:
In the Reddit forum, some gamers said that this update may also cause the game screen to drop frames and audio freeze.
Gamers claim that sometimes the number of game frames may drop by about 10 FPS after entering the game and stalls sometimes occur, but not every time.
Similarly, if you uninstall this optional update and then enter the game, the frame drop and audio freeze issues will disappear, and the game may return to normal without frame drop after uninstalling.
Although this update has been released for five days and there are a lot of user feedback issues in the Microsoft Feedback Center and the Microsoft community, Microsoft has not responded to these issues so far.
Of course, these updates are beta updates, so it is normal to have problems. I hope that these problems can be resolved in the stable update released on March 10.
