Windows 10 21H2 will enable new icons, abandon the legacy of the Windows 95 era
At present, the mainstream Windows 10 has been quite mature, introducing many new designs, but there are still some traces of Windows 95, although it is not very eye-catching, most people can’t notice it. For example, some functional icons from the Windows 95 era have not kept pace with the new design style, resulting in some inconsistencies in appearance with the operating system.
According to WindowsLatest reports, after extracting shell32.dll, you will find that the Windows 95 era icons have been completely replaced in the Windows 10 21H2 Insider Preview version codenamed “Sun Valley”, including hibernation mode, network, memory, and floppy disks, etc. The new icon is more similar to the icon design style of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Launcher, and other products. Although in the Windows 10 era, few people will use floppy disks, Microsoft still retains the relevant settings and icons.
Modifying the old icons is part of the “Sun Valley” update. This is to improve the user’s UI experience. After all, it is derived from the design more than 20 years ago, and it is a bit incompatible with the modern UI style. Some other important icons, such as My Computer, Recycle Bin, and Documents, will also be modified to add more colorful and modern elements.
Microsoft is expected to finalize Windows 10 21H2 before July. This update is the first major version of Windows 10 after the 2004 version in early 2020. During this time, Microsoft has made two minor updates, namely Windows 10 20H2 and Windows 10 21H1. It is expected that Windows 10 21H2 will be released in October or November this year, and the new icon will be available to users.
