Walmart will complete the deployment of new electric vehicle charging stations in the sales channel by 2030

Previously committed to the large-scale development of electric vehicle applications, Walmart recently announced plans to deploy new electric vehicle charging stations at thousands of Walmart sales channels and Sam’s Club warehouse stores by 2030, thereby establishing an extensive charging station network.

At present, Walmart has already deployed 1,300 electric vehicle charging stations across more than 280 sales channels and affiliated facilities. However, it is not clear whether this expansion will result in a comprehensive upgrade of all sales channels.

Walmart notes that the majority of its sales channels and warehouse stores are located within a commutable range (approximately 10 miles) for 90% of the U.S. population. By integrating electric vehicle charging stations, Walmart aims to satisfy the growing demand for convenient charging options and promote the adoption of electric vehicles within the United States.

Walmart is currently seeking collaboration with suppliers and has previously partnered with companies such as American electric vehicle DC fast-charging network provider EVgo and Electrify America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group of America. Walmart anticipates providing at least four charging stations at each location and charging relatively low fees to attract more electric vehicle owners.

In addition to expanding its charging station network, Walmart plans to achieve zero carbon emissions for its own vehicles and those of its supply chain partners by 2040. The company has already begun transitioning its transportation fleet to electric vehicles.
