Walmart acquires AR optical technology company Memomi

Walmart recently acquired Memomi, an AR optical technology company, to enhance its virtual try-on service for products such as glasses. With more than 2,800 Walmart locations and more than 550 Walmart-affiliated warehouse stores, SamsClub will provide more convenient virtual try-on services.

In fact, Memomi’s AR technology can be applied to more virtual try-on scenarios, including beauty, clothing, accessories, shoes, and other product categories. But at present, Walmart apparently only applies Memomi technology to virtual try-on of glasses products.
At present, Memomi has cooperated with Sephora, Estée Lauder, Dior, YSL, Sisley, GIORGIO ARMANI, and other brands. Through its software technology, it creates products such as digital mirrors that can correspond to virtual makeup and clothes changing and has also cooperated with Walmart since 2019.

Customers are looking for access to care digitally, in their homes, and purchasing eyeglasses is no different,” said David Reitnauer, Vice President, Specialty Services, Walmart Health & Wellness. “This acquisition supports our Health & Wellness mission to provide accessible care to the communities we serve.

After being acquired by Walmart, Memomi co-founders Salvador Nissi Vilcovsky and Ofer Saban will both join the Walmart team. When regulators approve the deal, Memomi team members will also join Walmart’s global technology team. However, Walmart did not disclose the specific amount of the acquisition of Memomi, nor did it say whether Memomi’s current external cooperation services will continue to be maintained.

In addition to acquiring Memomi, Walmart previously acquired Zeekit technical resources. Users can use AR technology to confirm the placement of furniture products at home, thereby judging whether the size and style of the originally selected furniture are appropriate.
