Visual Studio Code now supports Windows 10 ARM devices
Visual Studio Code is a cross-platform open-source code editor launched by Microsoft in 2015, which is also one of the most popular code editors in the developer field. In 2017, Qualcomm and Microsoft launched the Windows 10 ARM version, so that the Windows operating system can run on the ARM platform, so many developers asked Microsoft to support Windows 10 ARM as soon as possible.
However, Visual Studio Code relied on the Electron framework support, this framework has not been well compatible with Windows 10 ARM, so Microsoft was also unable to develop Visual Studio Code for ARM version based on the framework.
In 2018, the development members of the Electron framework have stated that they plan to follow up after the Chromium browser natively supports the ARM platform. It will not support Windows 10 ARM version until the release of Electron 7.0 in 2019.
Although Microsoft also launched the Surface Pro X based on the ARM architecture, as you know, the platform is relatively thin. Many software can only be run through the simulator because it is not developed for the ARM platform, and the efficiency of the simulator is not good as native support.
Now, after waiting for three years, Visual Studio Code has finally begun to support ARM64 natively. This is the advancement after Chromium natively supports ARM64 and Electron natively supports ARM64.
