VESA issues ClearMR certification

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) announced the launch of the ClearMR Compliance Test Specification, a new industry standard and certification program that provides new quality metrics for motion blur grading in digital displays. ClearMR is suitable for display panels, TVs, monitors, and computers with embedded displays, including a range of products including all-in-one PCs, notebooks, notebooks, and tablets.

VESA says the clear motion ratio (CMR), a new metric defined in the ClearMR standard, provides a clear and unambiguous numerical value based on the ratio of clear to blurred pixels and allows consumers to easily compare the amount of motion blur between VESA-certified ClearMR displays.

Existing methods (such as MPRT) fail to reflect the true nature of blur, and many image enhancement and blur mitigation techniques cannot be explained by time-based metrics alone, thus impacting the judgment of image quality. VESA’s ClearMR standard and certification program restrict the use of certain enhancement technologies during testing, allowing consumers to fairly compare the motion blur quality of VESA-certified ClearMR display products.

Only monitors that pass all ClearMR compliance tests are eligible for the VESA-certified ClearMR mark. The ClearMR logo has multiple performance levels, from ClearMR 3000 to ClearMR 9000, each level representing a range of blurring performance based on the ratio between clear and blurred pixels.
