Veritas Genetics, a DNA testing startup leaked data
US DNA testing startup, Veritas Genetics said that a data breach occurred in the company, causing some customers’ information to be stolen.
The company acknowledged that its customer-facing portal recently was hacked but did not say when it was attacked. The company refused to disclose specific information stolen, only that the portal did not contain customer test results or medical information, and only a few customers were affected. The company has not yet issued a formal public statement and has not acknowledged it on its website. A spokesperson for Veritas Genetics did not respond to requests for comment.
Bloomberg first reported the news. Although the stolen data does not include personal health information, it may further exacerbate concerns that healthy startups, especially those dealing with sensitive DNA and genomic information, may not be able to protect user data.
