Valve launches Deck Verified, a game certification system
Valve provides a simple way for gamers to check which games in the Steam library are suitable for running on Steam Deck. Valve calls this game certification system Deck Verified, which will be integrated into the Steam store, allowing gamers to know the approximate running status of the game on the Steam Deck before installation.
Although Valve promises that Steam Deck is a “portable Steam game library” for players, there are still doubts about the effect of playing games on this customized Linux system. Valve launched Deck Verified in order to let players better understand how the game runs on Steam Deck. Valve has launched a related review process to confirm the compatibility of each game on Steam with Steam Deck. Currently, the game will be divided into four levels, namely “Verified”, “Playable”, “Unsupported” and “Unknown”
The green circle with a tick is “Verified”, which means that the game has passed all compatibility tests and can have a good experience on Steam Deck. The yellow circle with an exclamation point is “Playable”, which means that the game can be run on Steam Deck, but the player needs to make corresponding settings and manual debugging. The forbidden mark in gray is “Unsupported”, which means that it is not compatible with Proton or specific hardware and cannot run on Steam Deck. The question mark is “Unknown”, which means that the game has not been tested for compatibility.
For a game to pass the certification, it needs to support the important functions of Steam Deck, including support for Steam Deck controller, 720P and 800P resolution, and support Proton to be compatible with Steam Deck customized SteamOS.
In the Steam Deck built-in store, only certified games will be displayed on the first page, but players can still view the entire game store by browsing or searching.
