US investigative agency says that the SolarWinds attack originated from Russia
The supply chain attack on the Solarwinds Software Company in the United States is still in progress. According to investigations, hundreds of government and corporate organizations have been attacked worldwide.
Although both Microsoft and FireEye implied that the attack originated from Russia, US President Trump previously stated that the attack may also originate from China.
Trump said at the time that every time there was a major incident, he would always think of Russia first, but in fact, the attacker behind it might be China instead of Russia.
Now the joint statement issued by US investigative agencies directly hit Trump in the face. These investigative agencies said that after a detailed investigation, they believed that the source of the attack was Russia.
The incident was the responsibility of the FBI, the National Security Agency, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and the Office of the US Director of National Intelligence.
At present, these institutions have released preliminary investigation results of the SolarWinds supply chain attack, and the preliminary investigation results attribute the cybersecurity incident to Russia.
In the joint statement, these agencies stated that most or all of the recent attacks on government and non-government networks came from an advanced persistent threat organization.
This advanced persistent threat organization may come from Russia, and the investigative agency said that it will continue to conduct intelligence collection and investigation to determine the attack process.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said in an interview with the media that the SolarWinds attack may come from Russia, but has not yet issued an official statement.
