Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS released
Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (Bionic Beaver) is released, including desktop, server, and cloud versions, and a series of Ubuntu derivative systems have also been updated to 18.04.5, including Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin and Xubuntu.
This release brings many updates, including security updates and fixes for other issues that have a major impact, with emphasis on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
Starting from 18.04.4, the kernel is based on Linux 5.3, which mainly supports the latest hardware and peripherals provided by IBM and Intel; OpenJDK 11 is used by default; there are other significant changes, including bug fixes to installers and bug fixes to window managers, and some Snap-related features in the GNOME initial setup tool.
Like previous LTS series, 18.04.5 includes hardware enablement stacks for use on newer hardware. This support is offered on all architectures and is installed by default when using one of the desktop images.
Ubuntu Server defaults to installing the GA kernel; however you may select the HWE kernel from the installer bootloader.
As usual, this point release includes many updates, and updated installation media has been provided so that fewer updates will need to be downloaded after installation. These include security updates and corrections for other high-impact bugs, with a focus on maintaining stability and compatibility with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
