U.S. Secretary of State says consideration of banning TikTok
US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo said in an interview with the media that the United States is indeed discussing whether to ban the TikTok short video application.
In an interview, the US Secretary of State stated that he did not want to disclose this news before Trump, but the US government is indeed considering and discussing whether to ban the Tiktok app.
“We are taking this very seriously. We are certainly looking at it,” Pompeo said. “With respect to Chinese apps on peoples’ cellphones, the United States will get this one right too.”
Currently, most users of the Tiktok app are users in China and India. The total number of downloads of this app in India has exceeded 400 million.
After being banned by the Indian government, the impact on the Beijing-based ByteDance is actually very large. After all, the Indian market is one of the largest users of ByteDance.
After the Indian market is banned, the ByteDance loses one of the largest user sources. If it is banned by the United States, it will lose its main income market.
However, some analysts believe that the United States is unlikely to ban the TikTok app. If the TikTok app is only illegal, ByteDance may be required to correct TikTok through fines and other measures.
