TSMC is discussing building foundry in the U.S for developing 3nm chip production
TSMC, a leading chip foundry in process technology, announced on its official website on May 15 last year that they will build a chip factory in Arizona, USA. After completion, they will use a 5nm process to produce chips for related customers and plan monthly production capacity. With 20,000 wafers, this factory plans to start construction in 2021, and the goal is to start production in 2024. TSMC plans to invest $12 billion in this factory from 2021 to 2029.
In addition to the 5nm chip manufacturing plant under construction, the media earlier this month quoted sources as reporting that TSMC plans to build five more chip factories in Arizona, USA.
Although there is no final conclusion to build five more factories in the United States, judging from the latest reports, TSMC’s management is currently discussing building another chip manufacturing plant in the United States.
According to the Reuters report, TSMC’s management is currently discussing whether their next chip factory in the United States will use a more advanced 3nm process technology to produce chips for related customers.
According to sources, the investment in the 3nm chip factory may reach $23-25 billion, which is much higher than the 5nm chip factory they are currently building in Arizona.
