TrendForce: SSD products will start to increase prices later this year
TrendForce, a well-known market analysis company, recently released an analysis report stating that the price of flash memory products such as solid-state drives is about to start to rise due to various reasons.
Previously, the prices of flash memory products continued to decline, including memory and solid-state hard drives. Now the environment of the entire industry has changed.
These changes have led to a decrease in the supply of flash memory products, so the prices of flash memory products will begin to rise, specifically, prices may start to increase from the middle of this year.
TrendForce said that there has been a shortage of NAND controllers in the flash memory industry before, but the shortage of controllers is not enough to directly affect the price of hard drives.
Earlier, Samsung’s semiconductor factory in Austin, USA, was shut down due to power supply problems. At that time, a heavy snowstorm in Texas caused difficulties in the power supply throughout the state.
Samsung’s Austin plant started to stop production from mid-February to March 2. Samsung has dispatched engineers to resume work, but it may not be able to resume work until the end of the month.
The analysis company has obtained news from the supply chain that some companies are already preparing to increase the price of solid-state drives by 3% to 8%, and the impact of enterprise-level solid-state drives is relatively small.
TrendForce said that enterprise-grade solid-state disks were originally prepared to cut the price by 0~5% in the second quarter, but now they will increase slightly but the magnitude is much smaller than that of consumer-grade solid-state disks.
In addition, the coronavirus epidemic is still very serious in many countries, which has led to an increase in the demand for notebook computers, which in turn led to an increase in the demand for solid-state drives.
The combination of these factors will make the price of consumer-grade solid-state disks slowly rise, and it is expected that the price of consumer-grade solid-state disks will increase from the second quarter of this year.
