The revenue of the top ten IC design companies in 2022Q2 soared by 32% year-on-year
Recently, TrendForce released the latest research report, showing that the total revenue of the world’s top ten IC design companies in the second quarter of 2022 was US$39.56 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32%. Growth was driven primarily by demand for a combination of data centers, IoT, and high-end products. AMD achieved synergies through mergers and acquisitions. In addition to climbing to third place, the second quarter of 2022 saw substantial year-over-year growth of 70%.
Qualcomm continued to maintain its No. 1 position with growth in the mobile phone, RF front-end divisions, and IoT and automotive sectors, despite weak mid- and low-end mobile phone AP sales, however, the demand for high-end mobile phone APs was stable, and its revenue reached US$9.38 billion, a year-on-year increase of 52%. Thanks to the stable performance of data centers, Nvidia’s revenue share in this category has expanded to 53.5%, making up for the decline in gaming revenue. Its revenue was $7.09 billion, and the year-on-year growth rate slowed to 21%. Broadcom remained solid in sales of semiconductor solutions, with revenue of $6.49 billion in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 31% year-over-year.
MediaTek, Marvell, Novatek, Realtek, and Will Semiconductor ranked fifth to ninth, among which Novatek and Will Semiconductor both experienced a decline in revenue. The former suffered from a decline in demand for display driver ICs and SoCs, while the latter suffered from weak smartphone sales. Cirrus Logic’s tenth position was replaced by Synaptics, a company that develops solutions for human-machine interface interaction for mobile computing, communications, and entertainment devices.
TrendForce said that although most IC design companies maintained revenue growth in the second quarter of 2022, they were affected by weakening demand in the consumer market and overall economic uncertainty. The growth rate has slowed down significantly, and the inventory level has increased. After entering the second half of the year, the downstream inventory situation has not been effectively improved. Based on the previous conditions, it will be difficult for IC design companies to maintain revenue growth, and consumer products need to be de-stocked for several quarters.
