The new RX 6800 graphics card leaks
Currently, AMD uses Navi 21 GPU graphics cards including RX 6900 XT, RX 680 XT, and RX 6800, all equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, There is no other product with 8GB video memory capacity, and the RX 6700XT with 12GB of video memory uses Navi 22 GPU. When it was released, it seemed that AMD didn’t mean to equip Navi 21 with 8GB of video memory, but now things seem to have turned a little bit better.
Twitter user @Komachi_Ensaka found an unreleased AMD Radeon series graphics card in UserBenchmark, its device ID is 1002 73BF, which is obviously a derivative of Navi 21, and the subsystem ID is 1002 0E3A which matches AMD Radeon RX 6800, but it only has 8GB of video memory.
In fact, AMD’s 8GB Radeon RX 6800 graphics card has been rumored for a long time, but this has never been officially confirmed, and large-capacity video memory has always been one of the selling points of AMD RX 6000 series graphics cards. Except for the top RTX 3090, the rival NVIDIA does not have a product with a memory capacity of more than 16GB, but as for why AMD wants to get an RX 6800 8GB out now, maybe it wants to get another product between RX 6800 and RX 6700XT.
I personally think that this RX 6800 8GB is unlikely to appear in the retail market, mainly because there is no need to insert another product between RX 6800 and RX 6700XT, but it is very likely that AMD will invest it in the OEM market.
