The global sales of Elden Ring have exceeded 20.5 million copies
At the previous year’s TGA 2022 awards ceremony, the indomitable Elden Ring seized the most prestigious Game of the Year award, further securing Best Role-Playing Game, Best Game Direction, and Best Art Direction. Unquestionably, this dark fantasy open-world role-playing action game, widely embraced by gamers, was the most successful of the previous year, undoubtedly triumphing in sales as well.
As indicated in a recent investor report by Bandai Namco, this magnum opus by FromSoftware has already sold over 20.5 million copies. Considering ‘Elden Ring’ was released on February 25, 2022, and has been available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One platforms for less than 15 months, such a sales volume is truly remarkable. To provide context, FromSoftware’s previously acclaimed Dark Souls series had only achieved a cumulative sales volume of 27 million copies by mid-2020.
Bandai Namco conveyed that recent game releases have not met sales expectations, but the sustained success of ‘Elden Ring’ has compensated for some of these shortfalls, making a significant contribution to the previous fiscal year’s revenue. This trend is particularly pronounced in overseas markets. Bandai Namco anticipates a decline in ‘Elden Ring’ sales in the forthcoming period, given that they announced in February of this year that sales had already surpassed 20 million copies. This implies that in the approximate three months since cumulative sales may have only reached 500,000 copies.
Currently, the first ‘Elden Ring’ DLC, named ‘Shadow of the Erdtree,’ is in production. However, no specific release date has been provided by the officials, and the report did not furnish any further details about the DLC.
