The flagship model equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 895 will be released this year
It was previously reported that the successor of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, Snapdragon 895 (internal code SM8450), will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process. Its CPU is the core of the Armv9 architecture and consists of a Kryo 780 Prime (Cortex-X2), three Kryo 780 Gold (Cortex-A710), and four Kryo 780 Silver (Cortex-A510). GPU is Adreno 730. VPU and DPU are Adreno 665 and Adreno 1195 respectively.
According to Gizchina reports, despite the continued shortage of chip supply, Qualcomm seems to continue to launch the next generation of Snapdragon chips as planned. Lenovo executives said that there will be flagship phones equipped with Snapdragon 895 before 2022, which means that products using the new platform will be available within the year. However, this does not mean that the production capacity has been guaranteed. It is possible that new products have been released, but the supply is limited due to the shortage of chips.
It is said that Qualcomm chose Samsung in order to meet the demand for production capacity, which is also one of the reasons why TSMC was abandoned. It has always been reported that Apple has obtained the first batch of supply rights for TSMC’s advanced process nodes, causing Qualcomm to choose Samsung as a last resort. Some people familiar with the matter said before that Samsung will give Qualcomm a very favorable price.
It is reported that Qualcomm’s partners have already used the new platform equipped with Snapdragon 895 for testing, and Lenovo may be one of them. Qualcomm is likely to release the Snapdragon 895 in December this year, and perhaps a few days later, Lenovo will release a new model with the Snapdragon 895. Although there are still a few months away, in view of the widespread supply shortage in the semiconductor industry, it is not too strange if it is postponed in the end.
