The court found that Apple had violated regulations in blocking Epic’s Unreal Engine
The dispute between Unreal Engine developer Epic and Apple is still in progress. If nothing happens, the local court will start a formal trial of the case next month.
But before this, the court has issued a provisional order, which is beneficial to both Apple and Epic, but the perspective of the issue is different.
Of course, in the eyes of our team, the temporary ban should actually be regarded as an Epic victory, although Apple frantically promoted the court’s support for Apple to block Fortnite in the press release.
After adding other payment channels in Fortnite, Apple immediately blocked and removed it. Apple accused the Epic of violating the company’s developer agreement and forced the removal.
The court recognized Apple’s banning of Fortnite, and even Apple’s banning of the Epic Games developer account, the court recognized that it violated the Apple agreement.
This is also true of Apple’s publicity in its press release that the court recognizes Apple’s developer policy. Apple said that the dispute was caused solely by Epic.
However, the court did not approve of Apple’s banning of Unreal Engine developer accounts held by Epic. The court held that Apple’s banning of Unreal Engine was suspected of malicious retaliation.
This is also the case for the court’s injunction to prohibit Apple from banning the Unreal Engine account at the end of this month, which means that Epic can continue to maintain the Unreal Engine in the Apple ecosystem.
From this perspective, it is Epic’s victory, because the company had expected that it would be blocked by Apple by adding other payment channels during Fortnite.
