Test shows Microsoft Defender has very poor malware offline detection rates

The most famous evaluation in the security software industry is AV-TEST, which checks various security software through a professional and complex process and publishes a ranking every month. Microsoft Defender is basically among the best in AV-TEST, so it is enough for users to use this software to provide security protection.

The tests show that Microsoft Defender’s virus detection rate is very poor offline. In the online state, the detection rate of Microsoft Defender is as high as 98.8%, and the recognition rate in the offline state is only a very poor 60.3%, which is basically at the bottom.
The evaluation shows that the German antivirus software G-DATA has the highest detection rate in the offline state, and its recognition rate is as high as 98.6%, which is also very reliable. Including AVAST, Avira, Bitdefender, TotalAV, VIPRE, K7, ESET, etc., the detection rate is close to or exceeds 95% when offline.

The offline detection rates of Microsoft Defender, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, and Malwarebytes are all below 80%. Microsoft’s offline detection rate is only 60%, Panda’s antivirus offline detection rate is only 40.6%, and Trend Micro, which is very well-known, is only 36%.

Under normal circumstances, security software relies on updating the virus database on a daily basis to identify malware. If the Internet is not available, the security software can only use the existing virus database for local analysis. However, the above-mentioned security software has a very high recognition rate in the online state, so only users who use it offline may need to change to an antivirus.
