Strix Point will be named Ryzen 8050 series
Regarding AMD’s next-generation Zen 5 processors, according to Gigabyte, the desktop version will be named Ryzen 9000, a designation that has appeared in the BIOS update list, effectively confirming its status. As for the mobile processors, Lenovo’s latest leaked information suggests that the new chips will be called the Ryzen 8050 series.
@TechnicallyLog1 released a promotional brochure for the Lenovo T14 Gen 5 notebook, which lists the Ryzen 8040/8050 series processors. This indicates that the upcoming Strix Point will be named the Ryzen 8050 series and confirms its release within this year. According to AMD’s mobile processor naming conventions, the initial digit ‘8’ signifies a product released in 2024, while the third digit ‘5’ represents the Zen 5 architecture.
Previous reports state that Strix Point will feature a monolithic design, increasing CPU core counts from 8 to 12, comprising 4 Zen 5 cores and 8 Zen 5c cores, with a total of 24MB L3 cache—16MB for the Zen 5 cores and 8MB for the Zen 5c cores. The GPU segment will upgrade from 12 sets of RDNA 3.1 Compute Units to 16 sets of RDNA 3.5 Compute Units, and the NPU will advance from the XDNA architecture to XDNA2, boosting computational power from 16 TOPS to 50 TOPS. The TDP will range from 45 to 65W, maintaining the same memory support for DDR5-5600 and LPDDR5-7500.
At the upcoming Taipei Computer Expo next month, AMD is expected to unveil more information about its Zen 5 architecture products, likely addressing both desktop and mobile versions.
