Strategy Analytics: Global smart speaker sales exceed 150 million units in Q4 2020
According to a research report recently released by Strategy Analytics, although the Covid-19 epidemic has caused severe market challenges, global smart speaker sales in 2020 have reached a record level.
In Q4 of 2020, smart screens accounted for 26% of the total smart speaker market, higher than 22% in Q4 of 2019. The availability of models of different sizes and price points continues to grow, driving the strong growth of smart screens.
Driven by the delay of Prime Day and strong seasonal demand, Amazon Echo speakers resumed growth in Q4 2020 after two consecutive quarters of sales decline, which pushed Amazon to lead the total smart speaker market with a 28.3% market share. Google ranked second with a 22.6% market share, but its shipments dropped slightly compared to last year.
Baidu and Alibaba left behind the challenges of the first half of the year and performed strongly during the year, they both achieved strong double-digit growth. Apple performed well in the quarter-after launching the $99 HomePod Mini in November, its global shipments increased by 74% year-on-year. Apple’s market share reached a record 7.8% in Q4 2020, an increase of 3.1% over the previous year.
