Sony will upgrade PlayStation Plus Premium features

Last year, Sony introduced an enhanced, tiered subscription service codenamed “Spartacus,” merging PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now while appending premium features. Upholding the PlayStation Plus brand, it phased out PlayStation Now, launching approximately a year ago. The top-tier offering, the Premium service, affords subscribers the benefits of streamed games, a classic games library, and timed trials of select games.

Today, Sony’s PlayStation division declared its intention to expand the Premium service, with trials currently underway to cloud stream PlayStation 5 games, inclusive of the PlayStation Plus games catalog, trial games, and supported digital PlayStation 5 games, thus rendering the game console download process obsolete. Subscribers to the PlayStation Plus Premium service can soon enjoy immediate game access without requiring pre-downloads to their consoles.

From next week, several additions will bolster the PlayStation Plus games catalog, including several PlayStation 4 titles such as “Tacoma”, “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided”, and “Killing Floor 2”. Also joining will be PlayStation 5 exclusive “Soulstice”, along with “Far Cry 6”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge”, “Inscryption”, and “Rogue Legacy 2”, all playable on PlayStation 4/5 consoles.

To commemorate the first anniversary of the revamped PlayStation Plus tiered subscription service, Sony has devised a slew of celebratory events, wherein both members and non-members can secure free avatars and wallpapers by redeeming voucher codes during the celebration period. Participants may also enter a lottery to potentially win a new PlayStation 5 console, or PlayStation VR2 headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. To partake in this lottery, players are required to visit the PlayStation Plus website and answer several questions regarding the PlayStation Plus service, with the event running from June 20th to June 30th.
