According to
TechRadar, Sony has confirmed to them that the DualSense Edge has not improved battery life, and is even shorter than the original DualSense. Sony’s explanation for this is that because they want to add more functions and ergonomics to the original DualSense design, they had to shorten the battery life a little bit.
“The DualSense Edge wireless controller’s operating time is moderately shorter than the original DualSense wireless controller because we’ve included many more features within the same form factor and ergonomic design as the original DualSense controller,” a Sony spokesperson told TechRadar Gaming.
Considering that DualSense Edge has added a variety of operating modules such as replaceable joystick caps, replaceable joystick modules, back buttons on the handle, and trigger buttons with adjustable keystrokes, and without sacrificing the tactile feedback and adaptive trigger functions of the original handle, it seems that the shorter battery life is justifiable.
But it should be noted that the battery life and battery consumption of the original DualSense are not optimistic. DualSense can have about 12 hours of battery life at the beginning, but as the usage time increases, the final battery life may only be about 6 hours. If the battery life of DualSense Edge is already shorter, then the situation after long-term use indeed causes concern.
Sony also stated that they hope to achieve a better balance between handle reliability and battery life. For those heavy gamers, Sony recommends that they use a wired connection for gaming, which can not only reduce wireless interference, and achieve better performance, but also extend battery life.
