Sony confirmed that the new handheld PlayStation Portal will be available on November 15th

Following its recent announcement of the forthcoming handheld device named “PlayStation Portal”, priced at $199 and 29,980 yen, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed in its latest update that the product will hit the market on November 15th of this year, with pre-orders available starting today.

Initial countries open for pre-orders encompass the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Beginning September 29th, pre-orders will be extended to regions including Canada and Japan, with specific timelines for each area to be announced in due course.

Yet, Sony Interactive Entertainment has not disclosed the anticipated release dates for the Pulse Explore True Wireless Earbuds and the Pulse Elite Wireless Over-Ear Headphones. However, it is confirmed that the earbuds will retail at $199 and 29,980 yen, while the headphones will be priced at $249.99 and 18,980 yen, respectively.

The PlayStation Portal is principally tailored to cater to users seeking to stream games from PlayStation consoles via the Remote Play service. The device can connect to the PlayStation 5 using 5GHz Wi-Fi. Sony, however, recommends using a wired connection for the PlayStation 5 to ensure a stable link, preventing potential interference with the 5GHz bandwidth that the handheld utilizes, thereby ensuring a smoother streaming experience.

According to details provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation Portal does not support direct connection to stream content from the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription service. Furthermore, it is incompatible with the PlayStation VR2. Its primary purpose remains to pair and play with the PlayStation 5. Consequently, many gamers and industry analysts opine that this device has a high potential for substitution.
