Sony announces acquisition of mobile game developer Savage Game Studios

Sony announced that it has reached a definitive agreement with Savage Game Studios to acquire the mobile game developer with offices in Helsinki, Finland, and Berlin, Germany. As promised in the contract, Sony did not disclose the terms of the transaction and the specific transaction amount. Sony said it will expand to more platforms through this acquisition to provide innovative gaming experiences to players around the world.

Sony has previously said it hopes to have half of its games running on PC and mobile platforms by 2025, and the acquisition of Savage Game Studios is in line with its IP expansion plans. At present, Savage Game Studios has not released any game works involved in the production on the official website. However, Sony said that its co-founders have decades of game development and operation experience, and the team is developing a new yet-to-be-announced triple-A service-type action mobile game.

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, said PlayStation Studios must continue to expand and diversify its offerings to go beyond consoles and bring incredible new games to more people, the acquisition of Savage Game Studios brings it one step closer to achieving that strategic goal.

Savage Game Studios will join Sony’s newly formed PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, a mobile business unit developed independently of game consoles. The new division will build games that meet PlayStation Studios quality standards, innovations on existing PlayStation IP, and new experiences for mobile gamers, dedicated to gamers playing anywhere. Sony confirmed that day-to-day operations after the acquisition will continue to be handled by the original management team of Savage Game Studios.
