Sony increases in the retail price of PlayStation 5 in various countries and regions

Sony announced that it will increase the retail price of PlayStation 5 in various countries and regions, and the new retail price will be effective immediately. It involves Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, including Canada in North America, while Japan will take effect on September 15, 2022, but the United States will not be affected.

PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan said that many people around the world are facing a challenging global economic environment, with high inflation and unfavorable currency trends already weighing on consumers in many industries. Given the impact of the current global economic environment on the PlayStation business, the price increase is necessary, and the first priority is to improve the supply situation of the PlayStation 5, in order to allow more players to experience everything that PlayStation 5 has to offer and future developments.

Sales of the PlayStation 5 were strong in the early days, leaving the PlayStation 4 behind in the same period, but sales slowed due to a lack of supply starting in the middle of last year.
