Sony and Honda team up to build the Vision-S series of pure electric vehicles

When Sony announced the concept car Vision-S at CES 2020, it was difficult for everyone to predict that this old Japanese technology giant would actually make a car. It is generally believed that this car should be used by Sony to demonstrate design technology. But in fact, Sony is serious. They continued to bring two mass-produced new cars at CES 2022 this year. Now Sony also announced a cooperation with Honda, which will manufacture vehicles for them, which is expected to be officially sold in 2025.

Sony said at the beginning of this year that they would have a new Sony Mobility company in 2022, which officially entered the electric vehicle market and released a four-door sedan Vision-S 01 and an SUV Vision-S 02. The two cars use the design language of the Vision-S concept car, but they are closer to mass production cars, but as an electronic digital product company, Sony does not have the ability to produce cars, and it is unlikely to reinvest in factories, so they need to find a partner. Partners in the automotive industry help them build cars.
Recently, Sony and Honda signed a memorandum of understanding for a strategic alliance in the mobility field. According to the superior division of labor between Sony and Honda, Sony is naturally responsible for the human-computer interaction parts of the vehicle’s exterior design, information vehicle machine, and multimedia system, and Honda, which has advanced technology in the driving part of the vehicle, will be responsible for the body and power engineering, so this cooperation between the two can be regarded as a strong alliance. It is reported that their joint venture will not build a new factory, but will produce at Honda’s existing factory.
